As Autumn is drawing to a close and winter is nearly upon us, the garden is starting to look bare with leaves scattered all over the ground and the trees looking bare. This dahlia was in full bloom recently though and looking very beautiful.

Our Autumn garden
Some might think it messy and others colourful but our Liquidambers are definitely putting on a show at our home right now.
Beautiful Crepe Myrtle
Our Crepe Myrtle has turned the most beautiful colour. It probably won’t be long before it loses all of its leaves. Sunday was a beautifully glorious day with blue skies and the leaves look just wonderful with the blue background, don’t you think?
Sunset at home
We don’t get to see much of the sunsets at home because of all the bushland at the back of our property. When the sun sets southward we just can’t see it at all but on Sunday night Graham came and knocked on the office window and told me I should get outside quickly to…
Sunlit maple leaves
These past few days have been absolutely gorgeous here in Victoria, Australia. I really do love Melbourne’s Autumns – it’s the best time of the year. Warm days, cool nights, beautiful colours, fog and mist, great sunrises and sunsets. Our two maple trees have begun changing colour and this is the upright with the leaves…
Aging Mushroom
We’ve had only a very small number of mushrooms in the garden so far. I’m hoping we get a lot more as we have had in previous Autumns. This one was a large white one that started to keel over. I liked the colouring underneath and then noticed a bug on the stem once I…
Kookaburra in the early morning sun
The early morning sun hits various parts of our property as it rises above the trees across the road from our home. I love watching our garden being gradually bathed in sunlight. A couple of mornings ago a kookaburra sat in the tree at the end of our driveway (one of their favourite trees) and…
The Colour Purple
is prominent in our garden at the moment. Here are a some reasons why:
Our beautiful cat Shadow
Shadow is a Burmese Cross who is around 15 years of age now. He’s starting to show it, just a bit, but still races around and acts like a silly kitten sometimes. He loves to follow me around the garden when he sees me with my camera. Seems all the cats know that often I’m…
A touch of Autumn
It’s now officially Autumn here, although I’ve seen signs of it coming in some of the plant life since February. Here, in our own garden, one of our Liquidamber trees and the Weeping Oak have begun to show their colours through their leaves. I know it’s only a few weeks before our whole garden puts…
Two sets of eyes are better than one
Kookaburras have amazing eyesight. Binocular type vision. I love when they look at me – it’s like they’re looking down their beak and almost cross-eyed, producing a comical type look. They often live in family groups – I saw these two squabbling before I took their photos and I imagine they’re probably siblings. These images…
Australian Laughing Kookaburra
Now the cooler weather is coming the kookaburras have come back. I guess in the dry weather worms and witchety grubs are harder to find – although we have had quite a bit of rain. Still, seeing the kookas in our trees is a sign to me that the bushfire season has passed – it…
