I don’t know a lot about the Banksias, other than that they are a native flower of Australia. I believe this one may be the Banksia marginata – Silver Banksia. It grows in my neighbour’s garden.

Asiatic Lily
Of course, we don’t just have white flowers and grevilleas in the garden. After being given a bunch of flowers awhile back with gorgeous lilies in them, I actually bought one to put in the garden. Isn’t this beautiful?
Grevilleas
We have a few different grevilleas coming out now and that means all the honey-eaters, large and small, are starting to hang around more. These are just a couple of them.
The colour white
Everywhere you look in our garden at the moment, there is the colour white. Don’t know if this was by design of the previous owners of our home, or by accident. Our plum tree is going to burst into blossom very soon. We’ve been watching it every day as we open our bedroom curtains. At…
Eastern Spinebill and Grevillea
I mentioned the Grevillea in my post yesterday on the Protea. Today I have shots of an Eastern Spinebill which is a small honey-eater, enjoying a Grevillea flower in our front garden. I can watch these from our office window but to get a good close up shot I have to be outside and much…
Proteas in flower
We have a small number of proteas in our garden. I had thought these are Australian natives but it seems their origin is from South Africa. Proteas are a common sight here in Australia in many places. I’m afraid I don’t know the names of these but thought you might like to see them. Like…
Winter flowers
We’re in the last part of winter now. By all accounts it’s been a very wet winter here in Victoria, Australia and quite cold too. Graham hasn’t been able to mow the lawns as the ground is so sodden, his ride-on mower would sink. This morning it was still only 6C at 8am and walking…
Sunlit at the gatepost
More on the pretty entry. I was out working in the garden yesterday and noticed the sun was shining onto the gatepost and the azalea beside it.
Pretty entry
This is the entry to my driveway. The Azalea flowers in both Spring and Autumn and stays in flower through to Summer and Winter. So it’s almost in flower all year round. Pretty, isn’t it?
It’s not all drab at winter time
I’ve been looking at what flowers this time of year and what might be suitable to plant in small bunches outside our picket fence. I don’t want anything that will grow too large and I’m happy for it to die away again till the next winter. At this time of year our trees are bare…
Winter still has colour and beauty
I’ve been wondering around our garden in the cool, almost frost air this past week. We’ve had rain, but some sunshine too. Wind and very cold. There’s no doubt we’re in the middle of winter here in Victoria, Australia. But, for all that, we’ve got beauty and it’s not all drab and bare trees. Our…
Dying signs of Autumn
Although it is winter now we still have some Autumn colours around but not a lot. The last tree to lose its leaves is on view through this bird feeder.
