Taken on a cold blustery day, the bees didn’t seem to let the weather stop them from their activities. This bee is on a tiny daisy on our lawn – even through the lawns had been mowed only a couple of days before, there were quite a few daisies out on display.

Things are looking up
Don’t know what caught their attention but these two both looked up at the same time. Probably a bird flying overhead but I didn’t look up to see. One of the kookaburras seems to have something hanging from its beak – almost looks like a hair or something.
Kookaburras
Graham mowed the lawn on Saturday – he wanted to get it done before the weather turned, as we knew it was going to do. After he finished the Kookaburras turned up, as I knew they would. The freshly mowed lawn means that things such as worms, snails and other potential food are easily seen…
Visitor to our home
Yesterday, when I was wandering around our garden with one of our daughters, I noticed a yellow breast on a bird on a tree many metres away from us. I know all the birds that visit our property and I hadn’t seen one of these here before. I knew what it was as I’d seen…

Blogs I read
I came across a most fascinating blog today that told about another that has moving photos – not films, but a technique called ‘cinemagraph’ in order to make a photo appear to be moving. Hair with wind going through it, a man turning pages of a book, steam from a kettle. Absolutely amazing. Is this…
Shall I or shan't I?
Was watching the birds in our park the other day. A family of wrens and a small brown thornbill. I can sit in our pergola almost undetected as I’m surrounded by bushes. Using my 70-300mm lens means I can get in closer for shots without moving closer. This little brown thornbill seemed to be pondering…

Superb Fairy Wren (male)
I went next door to my neighbour’s yard as it’s always good for birdlife amongst the bushes but came back disappointed as there was nothing much around, despite the sun being out. So I was very surprised when I looked on my own lawns near the birdbath and raised beds to find a family of…
Lysterfield Lake – still very full
As mentioned in a previous post, it had been a good two months since I visited the park. Largely due to my husband having been in hospital for most of that time. We took advantage of the beautiful winter afternoon last weekend and visited the park. I left him at the kiosk with friends and…
Lysterfield Lake Park late afternoon
I so enjoyed walking around Lysterfield Park again. It had been about 8 weeks since I’d last been there and I really did miss it, especially the gorgeous last Autumn days we had. Alas, I needed to spend my time at the hospital visiting my husband instead. This was his first trip back to the…
Australian King Parrot
These birds usually stay their distance from visitors but seem to be getting more game with tourists at Grant’s. This is a popular place to feed the birds from your hands and have them sit on you. First time I saw one of these birds doing exactly that.
