If you’re into birding, have you used eBird? I’ve taken things much more seriously with my birding over the past two years (since I’ve been retired) and track what I see and where. I’ve learnt that I’ve seen 53 species on my own 2 acre property here in the Dandenong Ranges, Vic in less than 2 years. I find that amazing and if I didn’t have the records, I wouldn’t believe it.
This year I’ve tracked 171 species to date, and have observed 196 species overall since I first registered with eBird a few years ago. I didn’t use it much back then but do now and have used it in 3 states, but mostly Vic. Over 40 of the species I’ve seen this year have been #lifers for me. You could say I’m addicted to birding 😀 My husband would certainly agree with that, lol.
I started doing every single day just before the end of last year. We’re on day 196 for the year and I’ve been doing eBird for 199 days in a row. While that’s not a record for eBird users, it is for me. They do have a challenge that users use it every single day of this year and that’s partly the reason why I am. I’m a little on the competitive side 🙂 Always have to have something to strive for! And it gets me out and about, visiting different places, seeing new sights and new birds, and just enjoying.
What has been your birding journey this past year?
