Another gorgeous bird and a lovely surprise this afternoon. Had a gorgeous little visitor in our garden this afternoon, under our willow tree here at home. It’s a Rufous Fantail – I’ve only seen one here occasionally in the past, usually in a bird bath near our house.
But today, as I walked under the Willow Tree at the back of our home, I noticed a bright flash of colour and recognised straight away, what it might be. The bird was playing with a number of young birds of different types in the trees nearby, and after awhile, it came to check me out, instead of hiding.
These birds are insect eaters and the recent rain, and my walking around, was probably stirring them up. It flew high up into the tree, checking some nooks for food and then flew back down to the ground again, checking here and there, before going back up to the brick wall. I was thrilled – this is the closest I’ve been to one of these birds and it had its tail on display almost all the time.
