Recently I heard from a gentleman who saw the story in the local paper about my photography win and he wanted me to come take photos of Tawny Frogmouths in his garden. He wants to pay for a print but said I could do what I like with the photos. Here are two of the…
Birds at Lysterfield
Yesterday you saw the Christmas beetle and today I want to share with you a small selection of birds I’ve seen on my walks at Lysterfield Lake Park. The first is an Eastern Rosella, then an Eastern Yellow Robin and finally a Superb Fairy Wren, male, known for their brilliant blue colouring. My daughter and…
The Christmas Beetle
Christmas beetles have vibrant colours and the adults emerge close to the Christmas period. The larvae are white and C-shaped, similar to those of flower chafers and stag beetles. From December to January adult Christmas beetles mate and lay eggs into the soil surface. I was out walking in Lysterfield Lake Park and noticed something…
Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoo
We had a visit from this bird again the other day. We don’t see it very often and it always announces its presence loudly. So my husband and I looked in the direction of the noise and found it high up in a gum tree in the neighbour’s yard. We could see it from our…
The beauty of the Bengal
My youngest daughter has two beautiful Bengal cats, barely out of kittenhood really. They are very curious, very playful and larger in height than the average domestic cat. I just had to share their beauty with you. Their names are Jonas and Scarlett.
Agapanthus
With the arrival of summer (by name but not by nature here in Melbourne at the moment) the Agapanthus have begun flowering. Considered a weed by many, they are quite prolific here in the Ranges and add extra colour to all the greenery.
One more look at the Dandenong Ranges
There are so many things I can show you there but I’ll do one more post before moving on. As you can appreciate I love the hours I spend just walking the tracks and taking photos. Getting exercise and vitamin D at the same time pursuing my passion.
Cockatoos in the Ranges
Grant’s Picnic Ground is in the Dandenong Ranges and a popular tourist stop to feed the birds. Here the Sulphur Crested Cockatoo is trying hard to grab a bag of seed and another has been checking the ground for fallen seed.
Update here at the blog
I’m busy updating the look of my blog and incorporating my Photography website into the blogsite as well. So please do come and visit – you’ll probably see me go through a few templates till I get the look I want. I know what I want, but it just takes time finding the right mix…
More of the Dandenong National Ranges
You might not be able to see how wet it was underfoot but you might get some idea from these shots. I had to keep watching where I trod as it was slippery as well.
A walk in the Dandenong National Ranges
We’ve had so much rain this year. Everything has grown considerably and is so green. I love how tall and straight the trees are.
Visiting the Dandenong National Ranges
I went for a walk a few days ago in the beautiful Dandenong Ranges early one morning. It’s still very damp underfoot, in fact, quite wet and slippery in places so I couldn’t progress far on one track and had to find another higher up. The next few days I’ll be sharing some of the…
