I know that some who have never been to Australia think that kangaroos might roam the streets or be seen everywhere you drive. That’s not the case. However, if you drive to parks in the hills or mountains you will get that opportunity. Where I live there are several parks and mountains nearby and I…
Sulphur-crested Cockatoo
I can always be sure that at least one of these birds is going to pose for me whenever I visit Grant’s Picnic Grounds, a popular place for tourists to hand feed birds. This one appears to have a cracked beak.
Grevillea on show
The Grevilleas are starting to flower in our area now. Lovely colours and intricate designs.
New domain name
I’ve set up a new domain name to reflect the content of this site. It is now www.dandenong-ranges-photography.com (or you can do it without the hyphens). So please update your records accordingly when calling up this site or blog. You may have noticed also the option for posting comments via your Facebook account. You can…
A visit to Cardinia Reservoir
My husand and I went for a drive to Cardinia Reservoir on Sunday afternoon. It was an amazingly calm day and really quite pleasant for a winter afternoon. We got out the car and decided to walk across the dam wall, as many others were doing. We were amazed to find it was around 1.75km…
Cloud formations
I often drive along and see some great cloud formations and if appropriate, I’ll pull over quickly to get the shot. This one was taken on a main road not far from home – heading towards home.
Bee and Apple Blossom
We have blossom on our fruit trees now. The plum trees, apple trees and down the road are the cherry blossom blooming. The bees are more evident now and busy all day long.
Brown Thornbill
As Spring draws closer the trees are starting to show signs of budding leaves and flowers and the small birds are increasing in number. This is a Brown Thornbill. Quite a cute little thing with an equally cute cheep sound.
Superb Lyrebird (male)
Recently I posted shots of a female lyrebird I was fortunate to come across quite close at 1000 steps in Upper Ferntree Gully. This week I was visiting Sherbrooke Forest and heard a male lyrebird singing. I thought I was going to miss seeing it as two very loud runners (both by sound and the…
Swamp wallaby and baby
Can’t believe I missed a day in posting. I usually have posts ready to go but have been distracted these past couple of days with updating the site and new ideas for it. However, I would love to share with you this image of a swamp wallaby and joey. Wallabies are more thickset than kangaroos…
The Darter Bird
At Lysterfield Lake yesterday, it was very still and calm first thing in the morning. I wandered around to see what might be different – who or what was visiting the lake? I found a Darter bird (sometimes referred to as the Snake bird because of how it snakes its head on its long neck)…
Calm mornings
I’ve been to Lysterfield Lake a few times in the past week. Now that my husband is home recovering from his accident and settling into daily life, working at home, having physio, etc, I can actually plan time to go out walking regularly again. I was missing it and the body weight is showing it…
