This little fella flew up to me, and then settled on the ground nearby – almost as though he was trying to work out what I was doing. Then he took off again after I took his photo.

It’s always fun watching riders get ‘air’ as they go over the jumps. It’s even more fun trying to catch it on camera at just the right moment!

Kathie Thomas has a Diploma in Photography (Professional Photography) and has won many local competitions and awards for her nature photography. She has twice been Commended in Australia Photography’s Nature Photographer of the Year competitions.

While this site is about the Dandenong Ranges and Nature in general, Kathie’s main passion is birds and she is an ethical birder. She takes photos of wild birds without baiting with calls, and avoids using flash photography.
