I opened the blinds one morning and turned away, only to have my daughter say ‘look mum’ and pointing out the window. I went outside to get a closer shot and it didn’t move. Instead of the ‘old gum tree’ this time round, the kookaburra was in the ‘old liquidamber’ tree.

The kookaburras are starting to get to know me now. They don’t expect to be fed every day but if they see I’m outside they might hang around… just in case. One day last week, after returning home from a business meeting, I noticed one kookaburra on the pergola just surveying the lawn for worms….
