I know I haven’t blogged as often over the past couple of years but I am still out taking photos nearly every single day of the year, and have been for quite some time. I am still in love with my Nikon P950 and it is the camera that I carry with me 95% of the time now. It’s only if I specifically want to get birds in flight, or some kind of action shot, that I take my other, heavier, camera with me.
Here are some images from 2021 that I took with the P950 to give you an overview.
January. Loved this lion shot I got at the Melbourne Zoo – taken through a glass wall and was a distance away. We’d taken our 6 yr old granddaughter as a birthday present.
February. A visit to the Blue Lotus Water Gardens – loved the drops of water on this lotus bud.
March. Close up of a Sulphur-crested Cockatoo in a nesting tree on the other side of a lake – this image has featured in a calendar for the region this year.
April – Southern Brown Bandicoot. I love how lightweight this camera is and how easily it can look through spaces and bushes, etc to find things. I know this one isn’t as sharp as it could be but it’s not often you get to see one of these in its entirety – usually in hiding.
May – the Amanita Muscaria mushrooms regularly turn up in my garden each Autumn and I love seeing them here – saves me having to hunt all over the countryside for them!
June – saw the excitement of sighting Swift Parrots for the first time (for me). They apparently fly over the Tasman from Tasmania to the mainland in search of these flowering gum trees.
July – I loved this great close up I got of a kookaburra in our garden – just because I could! Love the zoom reach on the P950. I was probably about 6 or 7 metres away from the tree the bird was in.
August – another lockdown but at least my husband and I could travel within 5km radius of home. We made the most of it exploring different streets and places we’d not explored before.
September – observed this female Eastern Yellow Robin preening itself where it would have perhaps pulled feathers to line a nest, or even to sit on eggs. It was at a local park.
October – while a large majority of my photos relate to birds, I do find other things of interest too. This gorgeous curious dog was watching me as I photographed a Halloween display in its garden.
November – the P950 is great for taking moon shots too and I can zoom in quite close. But, on this occasion I wanted to get the planet that was showing up too. I think it was Venus.
December – this has to be my absolute favourite for December, although I have many shots I love. The Puffing Billy dressed up as the Polar Express – it had been totally sold out over the 11 day period it was running. So good, especially with all the continuous lockdowns and lack of tourists in our country.
So that rounds up 2021 quickly and some of the many images I took during the year, an average of around 1300 images per month, so it does add up. And that’s the ones I keep! Hope you have enjoyed viewing them.
