Recently, a dear friend of mine passed away, but because of the Pandemic and that she was in another state, I was unable to attend her funeral and say my goodbyes. She was also very involved in the Virtual Assistant industry, as I have been, for many years, and for a time, she was my Vice President of an association that I led. Monika was very involved in VA activities but always in the background and was the videographer for our conferences each year. She is going to be missed a great deal.
I spent some time searching through photos of Monika and found many – I do keyword tag my photos, so that’s generally not a problem. But what it did make me realise was that there were very few photos of me with her, which made me quite sad. In fact, I only found two, from quite a long time ago. And when asking mutual friends, no-one else had any either – although one thinks he has, but hasn’t found it yet.
So, it became quite clear to me that while I spend a lot of time behind the camera, I am not often in front of it. Very little in fact. And that is going to have to change, once we are no longer in lock-down and I’m allowed to visit with family, with friends, with colleagues, with anyone really. I need to make sure that I’m sometimes in front of the camera because, one day, my family will need to search through for photos of me, and at the moment, there’s not a real lot of them, especially with members of my family and with friends.
While I’m at it, I’m going to do a lot more random and candid photography too. Many of the challenges of late, at Gurushots, have been of things I don’t have photos of and I can’t currently go out to just look for some of those things to shoot whenever it suits me. So, that is going to change too. I’m going to be far more aware of my surroundings and people, but also my loved ones and make sure that I have photos of them – with me! How about you? Do you find the same thing?
