and commenters too please.
I know that I get regular visitors on a daily basis to this blog, and many return time and again to see my photos. I know that some subscribe via RSS and some via email, but not many. I know that an even higher number see my blogposts via Facebook and leave comments there, which I appreciate.
I’d like to see the email subscribers list grow and also the number of commenters here as well. So, how do I do that?
I did ask fellow bloggers at a couple of forums I belong to, however their suggestions covered everything I’ve already been doing, from Tweeting at Twitter, to posting at Facebook, commenting on other blogs, and so on.
So I thought I would ask you, my readers, to give me some ideas on what I can do to grow my email subscribers (just to the right on the blog page) and I would love to encourage more comments. What kind of incentive do you think I should offer? What topics would you like to see me cover? Have you done my poll yet if you take photos yourself? Perhaps you’d like to share why you visit this blog? I know that not everyone takes photos but perhaps just enjoys viewing them.
So, share with me your thoughts, ideas, and anything else you think relevant to this blog so I can add value to you, the reader, when receiving the blog posts. Thank you. Kathie Thomas
As an incentive could you offer for free one of your beautiful images as a screensaver, or in the form of an e-postcard? Something that could be dealt with by an autoresponder perhaps (not a geek so I don’t really know).
Hi Kathie,
Like the ideas Graeme gave you.
Another option is giving a free print to one of the new followers in a certain period. Or an add at facebook linking to your FB page and your blog inviting people to connect?
I’m not sure what else, am thinking about this for my own site and it’s hard.
Good luck!
Oh, and I forgot…sometimes I get great replies by inviting people to let me know what they think of an image of tell me what they would like to see (eg what flower says summer to you). Doesn’t allways work but it can help with the amount of comments.
Thanks Margaret. I’ve tried that a couple of times but probably should persist. I’ve also been working on something else this afternoon and just setting it up. Hoping to announce it soon.
Hi Kathie,
Marketing experts say that it is important to send an e-newsletter out on a regular basis and offer a small prize at the same time. I would like to do this for my blog websites, but I simply do not have the time.
Another way is to create a links section and post links to other people’s sites that you like. Then notify them and they will usually post your site on theirs too. Google places you in their search engine position based a lot on how many links go to your site. I’m sure you know that few people go past the first two pages of the search engines.
See my site http://haiku-depot.blogspot.com and at the bottom you will see how I added a link. I don’t know of any other haiku sites I especially like, and I don’t want to add a link just for commercial purposes, so it as of now is my only one.
Also, consider joining goodreads and linkedin to let people know about your site there.
Your photography is exceptional. I really enjoy it on facebook.
Thanks Elaine for your comments. I’m looking at building a blogroll of other photographers at the moment. I know my Alexa Ranking is improving so things are happening. And it’s nice to see so many at Facebook now. I have been offering prizes to those who subscribe here on a monthly basis – some sign up at the local market and others here at the blog.
