I love to visit Birdsland Reserve regularly and never tire of visiting it. Almost every day I visit, there’s something else to see. Today it was 3 Chestnut Teal Ducks, 1 male and 2 female. I don’t see them there often, just now and then, but it’s always exciting to see them there.
Today I chose to do a couple of 20 min bird surveys as well. Some had told me via a local Facebook group that they never see many birds there, and another mentioned they hadn’t seen any, which I found very surprising, so thought I’d do the surveys.
Granted, there are probably a lot more birds first thing in the morning and there have been a lot of earthworks there of late too (for the platypuses in the region) and less in the afternoons, but I can’t say I’ve ever been there and there’s been none. Maybe I’ve been lucky, or perhaps it’s because I’m there for that purpose, whereas others are there to exercise, chat to their friends, ride a bike, talk on the phone, or something else. They probably pass by the birds without noticing them.

Saw a Grey Butcherbird this morning too, busy watching for its next meal and also watched some Pacific Black Ducks in flight – love seeing the green on their wings as they fly by.
Copies of the Bird Surveys I did. I did two surveys because the survey option I chose would only allow me to do it for 20 mins and that only covered one side of the large lake, so I elected to do two, one after the other. 22 species I think it ended up being.
