As the Train of Lights Show draws to a close (finishes 9th July) for another year, I went with some friends to view the train at various points on Fielder Bank, Gembrook and Cockatoo. Here are some of the shots I got that night.

Puffing Billy Train of Lights
I had the wonderful opportunity, recently, of shooting the Train of Lights Show with Puffing Billy while travelling on the train. Such a great adventure. This is the second year they have run it which is during the winter school holidays here in Victoria, Australia. It’s well and truly dark by 6pm and the show…
New Look Site!
Thought it was time to update my website and give it a new look for a new year. I hope you like it and find it easy to get around. On the right side of the screen you’ll see some new items, including my bird collection list – birds I have been able to see…
Our beloved Puffing Billy
On Facebook, and Instagram, it’s been so wonderful seeing the increased interest in our lovely Puffing Billy Steam Train, particularly from those who don’t live here in Melbourne, Australia. Originally a passenger train in the 1900s, these days it is a tourist attraction and runs every day of the year, excepting Christmas Day. There are…
Dandenong Ranges Icon
When you hear the words ‘Puffing Billy’ you are instantly transformed to visions of the Trestle Bridge, smoke and steam and people waving from the train. My favourite spot is at the top of the Trestle Bridge, to capture the train as it comes towards me. On this particular morning it was very still and…
Sharing a love of postcards
I have been writing blogposts but not in my usual category. I’ve created a new one called Postcards and it is linked in the menu of my site. So it won’t be going out through my normal email feed. For almost a year now I’ve been a member of Postcrossing.net and enjoying receiving postcards from…
Puffing Billy Race 2015
It’s becoming an annual thing for me now, to photograph the Puffing Billy Race in May, here in Selby close to home. Last year I went to the Menzies Creek crossing and had to handle an umbrella while taking shots too, but this time round the weather was just perfect with a slight breeze and…
In the likeness of Ansel Adams
Some of you may know that I’ve been doing a diploma course in photography. I’ve been learning about all sorts of genres and it has taken me out of my comfort zone, but that was to be expected. Some of it I’ve enjoyed more than other parts but, all the same, I’m getting through the…
The Puffing Billy
Some of you will know that I live not far from the Puffing Billy line. I love to go watch the train. My husband is a steam train enthusiast and while he admires their engineering and structure, and even the smell, I get to enjoy the visual from the rising steam and the train in…
Puffing Billy Great Train Race
Were you there yesterday? At the race in the Dandenongs? If you were, I have a number of shots of people passing under the Trestle Bridge as the train was passing over at my Facebook page. Here are some to whet your appetite. If you are one in one of these photos feel free to…
Leaving the station
The train is finally ready to leave the station and all the passengers have been told to get back on board. The station master rang his bell and called out that very familiar call ‘Allllllll abooooarrrrd!’ The train driver checks one last time before climbing back into his cabin to take the train out of…
The steam train comes in
Not long after we had our lunch, the first of the steam trains came rolling in. A big black steam engine. Note how people love to sit in the carriages behind – with their legs hanging out. A popular thing for young people. The train stayed in the station for about 20 mins, waiting for…
