I was out for a walk a little while ago and noticed all these millipedes on the one leaf gorging themselves. Not seen that before.

I was pleased with this shot – the bees are out in full force now and are easy prey for a camera, providing you’re willing to follow them around and be patient for the right moment.

I was practising with my macro lens. The shots aren’t as sharp as I like – obviously got a lot more practising to do. This is of a large bull ant on a flower.

There weren’t just the dragonflies though. I spied these two as I walked slowly along paths. I love looking for something different – things that people would normally miss because they’re engrossed in conversations, or their own thoughts or something. I know the first is a beetle but not sure what the other is.

Kathie Thomas has a Diploma in Photography (Professional Photography) and has won many local competitions and awards for her nature photography. She has twice been Commended in Australia Photography’s Nature Photographer of the Year competitions.

While this site is about the Dandenong Ranges and Nature in general, Kathie’s main passion is birds and she is an ethical birder. She takes photos of wild birds without baiting with calls, and avoids using flash photography.
