My husband and I visited our daughter and her husband in Wangaratta on the weekend. They’re around 3 hours north of us, in countryside that is very different to ours. Where we live there are hills and mountains and rainforests but where they live it’s flat, with floodplains, wide sweeping landscapes, some bushland, lots of farm areas, gum trees and a network of rivers and streams weaving back and forth. For all that, their part of the country is considerably drier than where we live, as you will see in the photos below. The line from a well known poem ‘I love a sunburnt country…’ is certainly a very true statement of this area. It has a beauty of its own and there’s no mistaking you are in Australia when travelling through it. It truly is home country for us.
