Cockatoos in the Ranges

Grant’s Picnic Ground is in the Dandenong Ranges and a popular tourist stop to feed the birds.  Here the Sulphur Crested Cockatoo is trying hard to grab a bag of seed and another has been checking the ground for fallen seed.

  1. Love the new look! There’s so many out there that try to do too much, but this is good!

Oh, love the pics too :-). Keep em coming!

  2. Thanks for the comment Toby and I appreciate you dropping by.

  3. In July and August 2009, I had the opportunity to travel to Melbourne to do part of my teaching internship. Our prof has family in Melbourne, so he set the Education program at the university I attended to include an opportunity to get some of the internship done in Australia and help students finish early (we are in summer at that time, and have no school, so that’s why they use July & August for this).

Anyway, one of the days while we are there, the prof takes those who take part in this program to the Cuckoo Restaurant and visit the Dandenong region. We stopped at this very place to feed the birds! I loved it there – it was so amazing to see so many birds. These are also birds we don’t have in this area (Atlantic coast of Canada), though we may have some cockatoos at pet shops.

Some day I hope to get back to this area! Love your photos – they bring back such good memories for me.

  4. Good to hear Shelley and thanks for dropping by. I often visit Grant’s. It’s a lovely place. And I’m so glad it brought back memories for you. I encourage you to look through the rest of the blog as I’m sure you’ll see more from that area posted.
