Horsefield’s Bronze Cuckoo

Posted on October 22, 2012October 22, 2012

I’m getting to recognise when there is a bird sound I haven’t heard before. I’ll go outside in search of it, camera always in hand.  This one my husband and I could hear from our office out the front of the house but it took me awhile to find it. It was well disguised amongst the new leaves of the Liquidamber. If the tree had been more fully leafed I doubt I would have seen it.

I got a few shots but this was the best one.  The back wings appeared to be jade green in colour and the chest striped.    I’m still tossing between whether this is a Shiny Bronze Cuckoo versus a Horsefield’s as the calls for both don’t seem to be exactly the same as what I heard, although similar.  If you have knowledge of this type of bird would love to hear from you. This is the first time I’ve seen this bird.
