As I was walking back along the track at Lysterfield Park yesterday a kangaroo crossed the shared path that is used for walkers, runners and cyclists alike. Guess he figured it was for him too.

Wallaby and Kangaroo
Those who live outside of Australia might not realise the difference between a wallaby and a kangaroo. They do look similar however there are distinct differences. Below is an Eastern Grey kangaroo joey and a Swamp Wallaby. Wallabies are short and stockier, more thick set, with a fatter tail which they use to help balance….
Mother Kangaroo and Joey
Especially for my overseas friends – thought you’d like to see what I saw last night while out for a walk. This Eastern grey female and her young one were busy watching cyclists ride on a path nearby and made a great study for me. But then they got spooked and took off – so…
Eastern grey kangaroo
I love how the roos just sit and watch you when visiting the lake early mornings. Later in the day they move into the bushland and lay low as the park gets lots of visitors, but early morning they’re grazing and just watch you pass them by.
New joeys
Recently I was fortunate to get two pictures of fairly new joeys. While they weren’t newborns, they certainly didn’t have their fur yet and the pink tones of their skin were showing on their heads as they peeped out of their mother’s pouches. From what I can gather they are only a few months old,…
Big man grey
When I’m walking around Lysterfield Lake Park early in the mornings the wildlife don’t take off so fast and tend to just sit and watch as you pass by. This boy is a very big Eastern Grey kangaroo. Check out his chest and shoulder muscles. If he had stood upright he would have towered over…
Let me in mummy!
There’s been an abundance of kangaroos and joeys at the park nearby. They are so cute to see. Every now and then I see a joey that hasn’t yet grown its fur. This one is older and has its fur and still hops into the pouch for safety. I guess a photographer with camera in…
Swamp wallaby and baby
Can’t believe I missed a day in posting. I usually have posts ready to go but have been distracted these past couple of days with updating the site and new ideas for it. However, I would love to share with you this image of a swamp wallaby and joey. Wallabies are more thickset than kangaroos…
Big Eastern Greys
There were quite a few fairly big roos out when I was walking at the park too. These I made sure I kept my distance from. They would definitely tower over me when standing up right and they can do serious damage to you too. So I remained alert the whole time I was walking…
A chatty fellow
Well, he wasn’t really. He was busy chewing on grass and watching me as I came closer. But he does look like he’s talking to me doesn’t he? I chose this as my ‘pic of the day’. This one stayed right on the edge of the path where I was walking and didn’t move away…
Back at Lysterfield Park
I went back to the park this morning (Saturday) and even though the forecast was similar to last Saturday, the fog didn’t lift till well after I’d left the park. So I spent a couple of hours there wandering around but not with good light. However, I did manage to get some shots of Eastern…
