While on the photowalk a few weeks ago we wandered along lanes, inside malls and explored the architecture, the people, the atmosphere. Here are some of the architectural views I took.

Iconic cityscape images of Melbourne
My husband and I had gone away for the weekend and, on returning home through Melbourne, it got me wondering if there was any one iconic cityscape image of Melbourne. I know there are individual images of Melbourne icons, like the Flinders Street Station, for example. But is there an iconic Melbourne cityscape image? I…
Flinders Street Station
Finally, after having breakfast with my friends, they walked me back to the train station. Many will have heard of Flinders Street station, and on a sunny morning like this one, its colours certainly did it proud. Underneath is a shot inside the station while I waited the arrival of my train. Tomorrow my daughter…
Federation Bells
Something I hadn’t known about was the Federation Bells. I could hear bells playing not far from where I was walking along the river so went in search. What I found was quite a surprise – bells upside down on poles playing by themselves. You can read about them here. They play at different times…
Birdlife on the river
What’s a river if it hasn’t got birdlife? Seagulls (one has lost a foot), Pied Cormorant and a goose that I think was lost. It was honking forlornly on the river and I watched it as it passed under the bridge. I wonder where it came from? It didn’t seem to belong there.
Another view over the river
No matter where you go, if you’re on the river side of the city you’ll be able to see the Eureka Tower looming above the other buildings. I must visit the skydeck lookout one day! These shots were taken from the bridge near the Flinders Street Train Station. And that’s the train station with the…
Canoeing on the Yarra River
Canoeing is a popular sport with local schools and you will often see people first thing in the morning on the river. I thought the second shot rather amusing. You could say they lost their heads…
Melbourne Steamfest
Yesterday my husband and I visited the Melbourne Steamfest in Scoresby. I’d read about it in the local paper and knowing how much my husband loves steam engines, I mentioned it to him. The clincher was when a friend at church mentioned they also had old radios on display. Graham is a ham radio operator. …
Cyclocross, Melburn
Such a beautiful day yesterday (Sunday) here in Melbourne and the first round of the Melburn Cyclocross was on at Lysterfield Lake Park. My husband and I went to spend some of the afternoon there to watch the bike race and for me to get my hand back in at some action photography. I miss…
Sky High, Mt Dandenong
Recently our nephew came for a visit and we took the day off from work to drive him around, taking the opportunity to see things we hadn’t yet seen. And so we paid a visit to Sky High at Mt Dandenong and below is just part of the view of the city of Melbourne from…
Out for a boat ride
There were a number of sea scouts and other groups out for the afternoon when we went for our cruise. This is one small group I believe are sea scouts and they were heading for a boat anchored out in the bay.
Spirit of Tasmania at sea
The Spirit of Tasmania (ferry) coming into the harbour at Melbourne.
