Still with the heron! Here it is fishing for food and I was delighted to watch it. I love the picture of concentration and how it’s focused.
Love how clear the reflection is!

I shared a couple of shots two days ago taken at Lysterfield Lake Park after attending a 2 day photography workshop. Here’s a series of shots I took on the same day of a young wattle bird. It was preoccupied with preening itself so didn’t really notice me as I slowly moved closer. When it did notice me, it went to take off, then found another spot (perhaps an itch) and attended to that instead and then fluffed its feathers. The light was low but thankfully I was able to get reasonable shots.
I went to a 2 day photography workshop last weekend with Steve Parish, Darran Leal and Mark Galer. Learnt heaps, met other keen photographers and went home to apply my new settings and purchase Lightroom 4. Have a lot of learning and practicing to do. However, I was out Monday morning shooting birds (my favourite past time) and here are some of the results. A Crested Pigeon and a Mother Duck taking her younglings out for a walk. All taken at Lysterfield Lake Park.
Thought I’d share with you more shots I took the other day when I saw the two pelicans at Birdsland Reserve. They seemed to just glide through the water with very little movement – you could hardly tell they were moving for quite some time. I was on the other side of the lake when [...]

Flickr.com has updated its system and is now offering Pro members unlimited space for uploading their full resolution images. Love that they’re giving us extra space – I’ll certainly use it as I have over 8,000 images uploaded there now. However, I doubt, very much, that I will upload full resolution images there as they’re [...]
While at Birdsland Reserve earlier this week I saw, for the first time, two very large Pelicans gliding through the water. Absolutely gorgeous to watch. And then when they got to one section, one hopped up on a dead branch but the other pecked its tail to get it to move. The first jumped down [...]
A writer once said to a photographer "Great photo...you must have a good camera!" and he replied "Great book...you must have a good pen!!"
Hello, my name is Kathie. I've enjoyed photography since my teen years but didn't take it seriously until a few years ago.
A photo of a blue banded bee I took led me to a path of discovery. I began researching to find out what kind of bee it was. I've actually learnt lots of things since that day and can now name almost every bird in this region and identify it by its call too. Apart from improving my skills in photography and learning more about my camera, lighting, settings, etc, I've learnt so much more about the environment in which I live. Read More…
