Bathed in gold

The building at the dam wall wasn’t the only thing bathed in gold. Below are two photographers as they come up the walk to meet the rest of us and one of the photographers lining up a shot.

As the sun rises

The building on the dam wall provides a great opportunity for watching the sun rise and seeing it bathed in gold once the sun has reached over the tree tops in the background.

Mist upon the lake

Looking back over the lake I could see the mist rising. As the sun got closer to peaking above the tree tops the mist would begin to move and go over the wall.

Lysterfield Lake Photowalk

The next few days I’ll be posting images from the photowalk I did on Tuesday. I was quite happy with what we saw and what I was able to capture and am looking forward to seeing the photos of the others that were there also.

When I arrived I made for the dam wall, where we’d arranged to meet but could only see one photographer there. At that stage I wasn’t sure where the others were. As I walked along the wall I could see the mist rising off the lake on one side, but looking on the other side into the valley I saw a view I’d not seen before. Don’t you think it’s pretty?

Beautiful morning at Lysterfield

Met with a group of photographers this morning at Lysterfield Lake Park for a sunrise photowalk and it was worth it. There was a small mist over the lake and the waters were calm. Absolutely gorgeous. I was there for nearly two hours but wished I could have stayed longer – I had another appointment so had to go and left the others there enjoying the beautiful calm and peaceful morning at the park.

Great Crested Grebe

I see this bird regularly in the lake at Lysterfield but had no concept of its real size till yesterday. I thought it was a small bird and I could only go by what I saw – its head, neck and top of its back. It didn’t look any bigger than the small black cormorants really. But yesterday I saw this bird in the distance on the beach preening itself and it looked like a Darter Bird from a distance. I thought I’d not seen one at the lake before – only up at Lilydale so I moved in for a closer look, taking shots every few steps, in case it flew away. In fact, I got much closer than I thought I might and was very surprised when I discovered it was the Great Crested Grebe, and indeed, much larger than I’d originally thought. Naturally I was delighted. I did see it last week with a bub but no sign of the bub yesterday, just three adults in different places.

Please forgive the graininess of the shot – it was before the sun had risen and I wasn’t close enough to use a flash – I had to stick with my long lens and a low shutterspeed – as low as I dared without a tripod.
