Nature and Mothers

Flashpacker presents Curio Bay & Porpoise Bay, NZ | flashpackatforty posted at flashpackatforty, saying, “I was lucky enough to spot a mother penguin feeding her young chick, as well as including pictures of seals. Greg Phelps presents Give a photographer a promotion… posted at Lucrative Lumens a blog about professional photography business secrets, saying, “The specific examples of marketing techniques in this article apply to pro portrait photographers but the concept discussed could easily benefit other types of photographers or even people in other lines of business who want to raise their profile in the community.”

April Blog Carnival

A bit later than I’d originally intended but here are the posts for this month.  Please do visit each site and let the photographers know that you found them here at the Nature Blog Carnival.

From Stephen Vanderpool we have Fishy Faces at Monterey Bay Aquarium

Boasting over 600 species of aquatic plants and animals, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is one of the nation’s premier sea life showcases. If you’re traveling to or through Monterey, make sure to set aside a few hours to join the penguins for lunch and take a stroll through the giant kelp forest. Here are just a few of the critters you’ll encounter as you wend your way through the watery halls.

Yolanda presents Wordless Wednesday: 3/28/12 posted at Yoli Dreams.

Joan Knapp presents Trillium cuneatum (Little Sweet Betsy)

My own entry: The mushrooms are slowly starting to show up on our property – nothing like two years ago when we had a real lot of them. This one was a very large white one but is now aging. However, I didn’t notice the bug on its stem till I had the photo on my computer.  I have no idea what it is.

Nature Blog Carnival posts March 2012

Welcome to the March 5, 2012 edition of nature photography.

My entry for this carnival is about the Dingy Swallowtail Butterfly.  My husband found this butterfly on the ground near an Oleander bush on the weekend. It had a damaged wing and could not fly.  I picked it up to put it somewhere safe to photograph it but it didn’t want to let go of my hand. Hubby took it and I got this shot and then we placed it in the Oleander bush high up, safe from predators on the ground. It stayed there for around 48 hours (through intense rain periods) and then disappeared.

Nature Blog Carnival Feb 2012

Welcome to the first post for the new Nature Blog Carnival.  We have a few entries and I’m sure it will grow as the months go by.  Please do visit the sites of each submission and encourage them as well.  The list is small but it will grow. There were a couple of others who wished to submit but I haven’t heard back from them with their particular posts.

I’ve now got this blog carnival also registered at BlogCarnival.com and hopefully we’ll have many other nature photographers join us soon too.

Joan Knapp brings us ‘Savannah National Wildlife Refuge: The Evening Before‘ on her blog Anybody Seen My Focus.  Joan shares some history on the area. I particularly like her shots ‘Looking across the marsh’ and the last image of the ‘plants growing in the water’.

I wish to highlight my own post where I did a series on Other Cockatoos.  I’d been filling in the days with images from the past year or so while I was unable to venture outside with my camera, after my accident.  I hope you enjoyed those posts.
