Baluk Willam Flora Reserve

On Sunday at church one of the men mentioned he was looking for an iconic photo of the Belgrave South region so I took it upon myself to do some research on the area and in the process discovered the Baluk Willam Nature Conservation Reserve. I hadn’t known it existed and it’s just 5 mins from my home.  On reading about it I found it is home to around 70 different species of Orchids.  Well, I managed to find three today and can see I’m going to have to keep going back to look for more.  They are minute. I’ve never seen some so tiny before.

  1. Sorry but only the middle picture is an orchid

Neil, thank you. I think the purple/blue one is a flax lily? I’m still learning but the yellow one really does look like an orchid to me. Do you know what it is?

  3. I think you will find the top yellow flower is either a Goodenia or Hibbertia. I think it is a Goodenia. Orchids have a labellum.
